Report: Bengals unlikely to re-sign Jermaine Gresham

Jermaine Gresham's tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals may be nearing an end.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reported that there is a very real possibility the team won't be bringing Gresham back for a sixth season. Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Inquirer also suspects the two sides will soon be parting ways.

Gresham started 15 games for the Bengals last season, but averaged a career-low 7.4 yards per catch and matched a career high with three fumbles.

As Hobson noted, if the Bengals do decide to part ways with Gresham, they'll need to add someone capable of blocking the taller, leaner pass rushers - something he did well for Cincinnati.

The Bengals have Ryan Hewitt, but Hobson reported that there is some question as to whether he can be a viable No. 1 tight end because of the inconsistency he's shown against big rushers.

There's also the issue of whether tight end Tyler Eifert can stay healthy for an entire season. The 2013 first-round pick missed all but one game in 2014 after undergoing shoulder surgery, and has yet to play a full season.
