Patriots' Josh McDaniels: We plan on throwing at Richard Sherman

Greg M. Cooper / USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels says his team won't craft a Super Bowl game plan that includes avoiding Seattle Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman.

"It's not an easy thing to avoid him the whole game," McDaniels told reporters at Tuesday's Media Day. "We're going to try not to do that with anybody."

McDaniels did say the Patriots will be cautious when throwing at the NFL's leader in interceptions since 2011.

"You can't not be smart and just throw at him because you're just trying to throw at him," McDaniels said.

Sherman typically lines up at left cornerback and stays on that side of the field. Some teams allow him to take away their top receiver, while others "sacrifice" a lesser weapon by lining him up against Sherman.

It should be fascinating to see how McDaniels and head coach Bill Belichick approach the chess match.
