New England Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner backed off his earlier comments about urging his teammates to target injuries to Seattle Seahawks defenders Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas on Tuesday.

"At the time that felt like the right thing to say," Browner told the assembled crowd at the NFL's Media Day ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl.

Browner said he reached out to his former teammate Sherman but didn't say if he apologized. He said he received a text from Sherman after his initial comments became public.

"My intent was good," Browner said. "Sherm is one of my best friends in life. He knows what it is. He sent me a text: 'LOL'."

Browner revealed that Sherman had another message for him: "You just made it harder for your receivers."
