Josh Gordon is reportedly facing a year-long suspension for a failed drug test, but TNT basketball analyst Charles Barkley says the consequences could be much worse if the Cleveland Browns wide receiver doesn't clean up his act.

Barkley was asked about Gordon during an appearance on ESPN's "His and Hers" on Monday, and noted he had a brother who died in his early 40s after battling substance abuse.

"So I take all drug stuff seriously, and Josh Gordon is gonna die if he keeps going on this road he's going (on)," Barkley said. "I love my brother, I miss my brother, but when you get involved with alcohol and drugs and you can't control it - you look at Philip Seymour Hoffman - it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when."

Gordon, who was convicted of driving under the influence in July, is currently in Stage 3 of the NFL's substance-abuse program. He was suspended 10 games in 2014 for testing positive for marijuana, but his latest violation is reportedly for alcohol.

"If last year didn't shake him up, he's not going to learn,'' Barkley said. "And like I say, I have sympathy for people that have drug and alcohol problems. But man, it's going to end badly."
