Super Bowl XLIX Line Report: Total falling despite action on the over

Kirby Lee / Reuters

After opening at a consensus of 49 and hitting as high as 49.5 in some spots, the total for Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks has fallen to 47.5, despite the majority of action coming in on the over.

According to Sports Insights, 60 percent of all wagers have come in on the over since the line was made available following the conclusion of the conference championship games.

Action on the over was heaviest within an hour of the line being released, with 62 percent of bettors siding with the over. Even still, the total dropped to 48.5 not long after the line appeared on the board.

The reverse line movement is a strong indicator that sharp money is coming in on the under for the Big Game. The under is 29-21 all time on totals of 47 or more points in the NFL playoffs.
