Report: 49ers president will play 'big role' in Jim Tomsula's transition to HC

Jim Tomsula will have plenty of assistance in his first year as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers

49ers president Paraag Marathe will play "a big role in Tomsula's transition to calling the shots from the sideline," Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports.

Tomsula served as the 49ers' defensive line coach for eight years before being hired as Jim Harbaugh's replacement. He has coached one NFL game - a 38-7 victory over the Arizona Cardinals following Mike Singletary's firing in 2010.

Marathe, who's spent the past 14 years with the organization, devised a game-management guide years ago that includes information such as when to call timeouts while trailing late in a game and whether to kneel or run plays while protecting a lead, according to Maiocco.

San Francisco has also hired Eric Mangini as defensive coordinator and Tony Sparano as tight ends coach, and the two have a combined 153 regular-season games of head-coaching experience.
