A former intern for the Cincinnati Bengals was indicted for stealing over $3,500 worth of items from the team's locker room, Paul Dehner Jr. of Cincinnati.com reports.

Nicholas Brannon, a student at Wilmington College, stole 106 items from the locker room during his internship, which was cut short in December after his arrest. Items stolen included personalized Bengals shoes, team gear, practice wear and other game-worn items.

Brannon gave the items to a friend to sell on eBay.

The 106 items totaled an estimated $3,588.73, according to a court complaint.

Brannon is charged with a fifth-degree felony - the lowest in Ohio - which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison. He will appear in court Wednesday.

"He didn't know that it originally had any other value other than just being a fan," Brannon's attorney Bill Gallagher said. "Then somebody else realizes it had value somewhere else even though (he) really wanted it in (his) room. That's the way it really started with him. It really, really did."

Brannon has returned all of the items still in his possession and plans to reimburse the Bengals for the cost of the stolen merchandise, according to the report.

"He is not a collector," Gallagher said. "Nick looked at it as a fan and it just got a little out of hand. He's a 21-year-old kid who made a stupid mistake. He hopes he's going to get to rectify all of it."
