The Arizona Cardinals remain optimistic about getting a new deal done with veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, though it may not come as quickly as fans would like.

"I think there is definitely mutual interest in getting something worked out," Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said Thursday, according to the team's official website. "Larry and I have had conversations. I know he's had conversations with (coach) Bruce (Arians) and (general manager) Steve Keim. (Larry) is traveling right now, but I think at the appropriate time we'll get this worked out."

Fitzgerald carries a hefty cap hit of $23.6 million in 2015 and is coming off a season in which he posted his lowest numbers for receiving yards (784) and catches (63) since his rookie campaign. But Bidwill said he would still like to see Fitzgerald retire as a Cardinal.

"I know our fans are anxious and lot of media is out there talking, but I'd just say, 'Everyone, relax a little bit,' " Bidwill said. "We'll get this worked out. I feel good about it. My goal from the beginning was to have Larry Fitzgerald retire as a Cardinal when he is ready to retire many years from now.

"I am feeling confident something will get worked out."
