With just one season left on the eight-year, $102-million deal he signed in 2008, working out a contract extension with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be one of the Pittsburgh Steelers' top priorities in the coming months.

Speaking on the matter Wednesday, Steelers president and owner Art Rooney II indicated the team would like to lock up their franchise quarterback as soon as possible.

“I think it is fair to say the sooner the better,” Rooney said, according to the Pittsburgh Pose-Gazette's Ed Bouchette. “But I am not going to put any particular time frame on these things. It is kind of hard to predict how long it takes to get something done. But we certainly want to get something done this offseason. That's for sure.”

Having thrown for 4,952 yards, 32 touchdowns and just nine interceptions in 2014, Roethlisberger is coming off the most productive season of his 12-year career.

Although the two-time Super Bowl champion will turn 33 this spring, his recent play will almost certainly earn him a new contract that will once again make him among the NFL's highest-paid players.
