Seattle Seahawks

Avril signs hefty extension. The Seahawks reportedly signed defensive end Cliff Avril to a four-year, $28.5-million contract extension.

“Cliff has been instrumental in what we’ve been building on the defensive side of the ball and we are excited that he’ll be with us for another four years," general manager John Schneider said in a statement. "He has been relentless in his approach to the game and his passion for winning is contagious. This is another great day for the Seahawks and the 12s.”

Wright locked up. Avril wasn't the only defensive stalwart who signed a nice extension, as linebacker K.J. Wright signed his own four-year, $27-million pact on Thursday.

St. Louis Rams

Bracing for Beckham. The Rams are readying themselves for rookie phenom Odell Beckham Jr. and the New York Giants.

"(He's) really an outstanding athlete," Rams coach Jeff Fisher told ESPN. "As good a receiver out of frame as you’ll see, especially at a young age. They’re really on the same page. The run-after-catch ability is off the charts. They ran a reverse pass and he threw the ball 40, 50 yards. They tell us that he throws with either arm. He’s an outstanding athlete. He's having a great year."

Cook misspoke in frustration. Tight end Jared Cook said he misspoke last week when he said the Rams were out-coached following a loss to the Cardinals.
