Seahawks sign Cliff Avril to 4-year deal, reportedly worth $28.5-million

The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive end Cliff Avril to a four-year contract extension, the team announced.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the deal is worth $28.5 million.

The long-term deal is the second for a Seahawks defensive player in as many days, with linebacker K.J. Wright having signed a four-year extension of his own Thursday.

Like Wright, Avril was set to hit the free-agent market at the end of the season, but the Seahawks are instead able to use the money saved in a mid-season trade of wide receiver Percy Harvin to ensure that he remains in Seattle for years to come.

Avril has been a pass-rush force since signing as a free agent in 2013, tallying a total of 12.5 regular-season sacks and playing a key role in the Seahawks' dominant Super Bowl run.
