49ers' Carlos Hyde does not expect to play Saturday vs. Chargers

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers could be without their top two running backs Saturday when they play the San Diego Chargers.

Backup running back Carlos Hyde told CSN Bay Area's Mindi Bach, "It’ll take a miracle for that to happen," when asked if he expected to play in Week 16. Hyde suffered a back injury in Week 15.

With starting running back Frank Gore still adhering to the league's concussion protocol, the 49ers may have to turn to Alfonso Smith or recently signed backup Phillip Tanner, who was on the Buffalo Bills roster this season but did not enter a game.
