Lions' Glover Quin says he's one of the best safeties in the NFL this year

With a league-high six interceptions, Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin is having the best season of his career.

Quin has been an integral part of a Lions unit that ranks second in total defense.

The 28-year-old was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and feels that he's been one of the league's best safeties.

"When you say the best safety, if you're talking this year, I would have to put myself in the conversation," Quin said to Dave Birkett and Carlos Monarrez of The Detroit Free Press

Quin was quick to make the distinction that he believes he's the best safety based on this year's play alone.

"When you're talking who's having the best career, who I would say is the best safety of my time right now, I wouldn't sit here and say that I'm the best guy, because I haven't done it for that long. I'm only in year six."

The Lions safety called out New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Hakeem Nicks for their previous boasts about being the best player at their respective positions.

"I'm not like some of those guys that put on this dumb answer like when you have a guy like Dee Milliner saying he's the best corner in the league or Hakeem Nicks saying he's the best receiver in the league, and you wonder why ESPN don't even play that, because it's bogus. Nobody listens to that. Nobody cares. They're just a player being dumb," Quin said.

"You know if there's a guy out there that's better than you that you look at and, like, 'You know what, I want to get my game to that level.' You know. You can't say, 'Well, I feel like I'm the best.' Get out of here."

Cleveland's Tashaun Gipson and Seattle's Earl Thomas were the two top vote-getters, based on fan votes, for the Pro Bowl at free safety.
