Report: NFL exec promises Adrian Peterson 2-game suspension in recorded conversation

ABC News released an audio tape Monday morning of a phone call between NFL executive vice president of operations Troy Vincent and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

In the tape, Vincent can be heard promising Peterson a two-game suspension instead of the full-season ban he received, which was upheld on appeal Friday.

During his appeal, Peterson claimed Vincent told him the league would factor in the time he sat out with pay as time served.

During the phone call, which occurred Nov. 12, Peterson tried to clarify the length of his suspension beyond his time spent on the Commissioner's Exempt List, and whether that suspension would overlap.

"It will be two additional games, not time served?" Peterson said.

"No, it won't. The one this weekend. So really, it's just next week and you, you're rolling. You're back." Vincent said.

The league announced Peterson's indefinite suspension six days after the phone call, adding he would be eligible to apply for reinstatement in April 2015.

The recording was made by the Peterson camp and entered into evidence at the appeal of his suspension. They believe Peterson was promised he would be eligible to return to action in the Vikings' Week 13 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, but was punished for skipping a Nov. 14 hearing that wasn't required.

"So two games?" Peterson said.

"Yeah. That is, you've got to act. Just go through the process," Vincent said.

The NFLPA is expected to file a federal lawsuit against the NFL on Peterson's behalf, which could come as early as Monday.
