AFC West Notebook: Manning praises Beckham's catch; Woodson plans to play in 2015

Denver Broncos

Manning praises Beckham's catch. Future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning had high praise for New York Giants rookie Odell Beckham Jr.'s seemingly impossible one-handed grab last week, calling it "as fine a catch," as he's ever seen.

Thomas attends practice, does not participate in team drills. Julius Thomas, who is sill dealing with an ankle injury he suffered during the Broncos' shocking Week 11 loss to the St. Louis Rams, attended practice on Thursday, but did not participate in team drills.

Manning wants to add Virgil Green to his touchdown résumé. Manning has thrown touchdown passes to 47 different players in his career. His next target: Virgil Green. "I’m going to get him that first touchdown pass," Manning said.

Kansas City Chiefs

Avant wants to channel Tim Duncan. Recently signed veteran wide receiver Jason Avant wants to play the game in a fundamentally sound way, like future NBA Hall of Famer Tim Duncan, so when his speed diminishes, he can still be effective.

Chiefs inspired by Berry's optimism. With Eric Berry set to have a mass in his chest examined for possible lymphoma, his teammates are inspired by his optimism and enthusiasm.

Charles to dedicate game to drowning victim. Running back Jamaal Charles plans to dedicate Sunday's game against the Broncos to a teenage boy who drowned in a pond near Savannah, Mo.

San Diego Chargers

Ohrnberger placed on IR. Rich Ohrnberger became the third Chargers center to have his season brought to an early end when he was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a back injury.

Defense is creating turnovers. The Chargers' defense has been effective of late, creating four turnovers in their last two games.

Flowers sees himself in Smith. With the Chargers set to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, cornerback Brandon Flowers sees a lot of himself in Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith.

Oakland Raiders

Woodson plans on playing in 2015. Thirty-eight-year-old Pro Bowl safety Charles Woodson plans on plying his trade in the NFL next season. "I feel great. Why that is, I have no clue. I'll play this season out and we'll see what happens after that." 

Raiders hoping to start winning streak. After snapping their 16-game losing streak last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders are hoping to start their first winning streak of the season on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

Murray returns to practice. Running back Latavius Murray, who suffered a concussion during the Raiders' victory over the Chiefs, returned to practice on Wednesday. Murray was in the midst of a breakout game, rushing for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns before exiting in the second quarter.
