AFC South Notebook: Savage named backup; worst Titans team ever?

Houston Texans

Savage named backup. As expected, rookie quarterback Tom Savage will serve as the team's backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick with Ryan Mallett being placed on IR. 

Clowney still dealing with pain. Jadeveon Clowney says he still has "a lot of pain" in his surgically repaired knee, adding that he knows it's something he has to push through. 

Texans rookies not making an impact. Despite owning the first overall pick in May's draft, the Texans are getting very little production from what the Houston Chronicle calls an "invisible class."

Tennessee Titans

Worst Titans team ever? ESPN's Paul Kuharsky speculates that the 2014 Titans could be the worst team to play in Nashville since the Houston Oilers relocated. 

Oher reveals significant injuries. Right tackle Michael Oher admitted this week he's been playing through not only turf toe but also a biceps muscle he tore in the preseason

Mettenberger jokes about selfies. Zach Mettenberger, who famously took a number of selfies before the Titans' last game against the Houston Texans, joked this week about checking himself into selfie rehab.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Bradley backs off Bortles criticism. Gus Bradley made headlines after Week 12 when he said Blake Bortles needs to play better. Bradley backtracked a little later in the week, saying he went back to the tape and saw that Bortles deserves more credit than he gave the rookie

Jennings eager to return to Florida. Former Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings, now with the New York Giants, says he's looking forward to returning to Jacksonville to play a game in warm weather

Branch nearing return. Defensive end Andre Branch returned to the practice field this week after a five-week absence and says he's working hard to get into the lineup as soon as possible

Indianapolis Colts

Phillips won't trash old team. The Colts claimed pass rusher Shaun Phillips off waivers this week after the Tennessee Titans cut him. Phillips had only positive things to say about his former coaches, but added that he's thankful to get the chance to play for the Colts

Redskins' DC praises Luck. Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett wasn't shy about heaping praise on Andrew Luck ahead of his team's meeting with the Colts, calling Luck "one of the best I've seen in the league."
