Raiders' Charles Woodson plans to play next season

It's not often you see a defensive back play deep into his thirties, but Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson is not your average player.

Woodson is still going strong at age 38, and even earned AFC defensive player of the week honors for his efforts last Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

When Woodson was asked by Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle if he would be returning next season, he quickly replied, "No question."

“I feel great,” Woodson said. “Why that is … I have no clue. Guess I am just blessed.”

Despite his age, Woodson is still playing at a high level and has recorded 59 tackles, a sack, and two interceptions this season. Against the Chiefs, he became the first player in NFL history to have 50 interceptions and 20 sacks.

If Woodson does return, he wants it to be with the Raiders.

“No question,” he said. “It would mean a great deal to play here and to get back into the playoffs and have a chance at going to the Super Bowl. Coming into this season, I had all the confidence in the world that we would be a much better team than what we are.”

He feels they are close to turning things around.

“It can turn fast,” he said. “It takes a few players here and there, and for guys to buy in. Who knows what can happen?”
