Redskins' Jay Gruden confirms Colt McCoy will start Sunday vs. Colts

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden made the demotion of Robert Griffin III official Wednesday, naming Colt McCoy his starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

"The reports are accurate, Colt is going to start this week at quarterback," Gruden said during a conference call with Indianapolis reporters. "We're going to play Colt, he's done some good things in his time as a starter. I felt like he deserved a bit of a promotion."

Gruden admitted that Griffin wasn't happy with the decision, but said it gives him more time to learn the offense

"Everybody's frustrated with the way the offense has played and it's my job to get the right people in there to help us win," Gruden said.

Gruden didn't discuss the team's long-term plans at quarterback, but NFL Network's Albert Breer reported earlier Wednesday that McCoy will be given every opportunity to keep the starting job over the next five weeks.
