Cowboys' Jerry Jones: 'I'm a big admirer of RG3'

As debate heats up in Washington over the future of Robert Griffin III, one of the NFL's most recognizable owners is throwing his support behind the former Baylor standout.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appeared on NFL Network's "NFL AM" on Wednesday morning and had nothing but praise for Griffin.

"Well, I'm a fan of RG3. Right on this field two years ago, or maybe it was three seasons ago, he put on a show and had a game that just floored me," Jones said, recalling the Cowboys' 28-18 loss to the Redskins in Week 17 of the 2012 season. "And they won, and they won in large part because of his play at quarterback. I thought, 'My goodness, and we're going to have to be playing this guy for years and years.' And so he's got it.

"Once you see a player do it, especially if you see him do it two or three times, you know he can do it. And of course he's a driven young man. I'm a big admirer of RG3."

Griffin's 2012 campaign is remembered fondly by many. He set an NFL record for highest passer rating by a rookie quarterback (102.4) and finished the season with the fourth-best completion percentage (65.6) behind Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.

Griffin has one year remaining on his rookie deal and a fifth-year option worth upwards of $15 million. His recent struggles make it unlikely that his option is picked up by the Redskins, but if there are other owners that feel the same way Jones does, he may not have a problem finding another team willing to give him a second chance.
