Seahawks take down Cardinals to close gap in NFC West

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Seattle Seahawks bounced back from last week's disappointing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the best way possible, coming away with a convincing 19-3 victory Sunday over the Arizona Cardinals. With the win, the Seahawks move to 7-4 on the season, pulling to within two games of the 9-2 Cardinals in the NFC West standings:

Here's what you need to know:

  • The Seahawks' defense was the story on this day, constantly pressuring the pocket in passing situations and surrendering just 204 yards of total offense.
  • While the Seattle offensive line had some trouble of its own holding off the Cardinals' pass rush; surrendering seven sacks, quarterback Russell Wilson made up for it with another efficient performance.
  • Wilson finished the game completing 17-of-22 attempts for 211 yards and one touchdown, also adding a game-high 73 rushing yards on 10 carries.
  • Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton had one of his worst performances of the season, completing 14-of-26 attempts for 149 yards and one interception.
  • The Cardinals' offense continues to struggle in putting together any sort of consistent running game for the young quarterback to lean on, as their 20 rushing attempts went for a total of just 64 yards.
  • With the loss, the Cardinals' six-game winning streak comes to an end and they lose to an NFC opponent for the first time this year.
