Report: Redskins' Gruden could bench RG3, has support of front office

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, who went on record criticizing quarterback Robert Griffin III, apologized, then did it again, has reportedly received support from Washington's front office to make decisions regarding the team's quarterback situation as he sees fit.

Gruden actually has a "license to bench" the quarterback if he deems his performance warrants it, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Washington has studied film of Griffin from 2012, when he won the NFL's Rookie of the Year award, and has "internal doubts" that he can regain that form due to injuries that have hampered him, according to Rapoport.
