Seahawks coach Pete Carroll lobbies for Marshawn Lynch's return next season

Marshawn Lynch is the key to the Seattle Seahawks' run-oriented offense and head coach Pete Carroll knows it.

Lynch and Carroll reportedly have been feuding all season, but the Seahawks head coach lobbied for his star running back to return next season.

The enigmatic running back is in the middle of the third year of a four-year contract but held out for an extension during training camp.

Carroll gave Lynch a vote of confidence Friday.

"If you guys ever would have asked - which you didn't - I would have told you we want him around here as long as he can play," Carroll said to ESPN's Terry Blount. "There's never been any hesitation and there's never been another thought about that.

"That came totally from somewhere else. He's under contract next year, and we'll be thrilled to have him playing for us. We'll do everything we can to get that done."

Lynch has performed well for the Seahawks, rushing for 813 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

Carroll grew impatient with the line of questions and defended his relationship with Lynch.

"Are you asking me about my personal relationship with my players now? We're doing great. Everything is going great. He's doing fine. He works his tail off. Since the day he got back here, he looked terrific."
