Raiders owner on stadium deal: 'We want to get something done in Oakland'

The Oakland Raiders are set to host the Kansas City Chiefs at O.co Coliseum on Thursday night. If owner Mark Davis has his way, the Raiders will be playing on that site for the foreseeable future.

The lease for the longtime home of the Raiders expires at the end of this season. Many have speculated that the franchise will pick up its roots and head elsewhere, with Los Angeles and San Antonio considered likely landing spots.

After having been quoted in the Los Angeles Daily News saying that he thinks Los Angeles would be a great option for the team, Davis clarified his remarks to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media on Thursday.

"We are trying everything possible to get something done in Oakland right on the same exact site we're on right now," Davis said. "And I'd say 99 percent of my interests and energy are going towards getting something done there. That's really the crux of it right now. People want to know about the other sites and there are always options. But we want to get something done in Oakland."

Having to deal with both the city and the county on stadium issues has made things more difficult on the club.

Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics also have a 10-year lease to play in the stadium, which the teams share, though the agreement does state the A's would have to leave within two years if the Raiders get a new deal on their site.

However, should things not work out in Oakland, Davis still believes Los Angeles and San Antonio are viable options.

"We want to stay here in Oakland," Davis said. "There's other opportunities that would be much more lucrative for us, to be real honest. But we are really trying to get something done in Oakland. We want a stadium the fans and the team can be proud of."
