Ball returns as backup for Broncos vs. Rams

ST. LOUIS (AP) Running back Montee Ball is back from a groin injury for the Denver Broncos against the St. Louis Rams, but is the backup behind C.J. Anderson on Sunday.

Running back Ronnie Hillman (foot) did not practice all week and was ruled out Friday. Backup tight end Virgil Green (knee) also is inactive after being questionable. Ball missed five games.

The Rams are thin in the secondary with a pair of backups, rookie Lamarcus Joyner (groin) and Marcus Roberson (ankle) inactive. Middle linebacker James Laurinaitis and defensive end William Hayes are active after being probable.

Special teams player Darren Bates (groin) didn't practice all week and was ruled out Friday.
