Titans' Whisenhunt: Mettenberger the starter going forward

Zach Mettenberger's status as the Tennessee Titans starting quarterback will extend beyond Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

"Jake (Locker’s) number two," Whisenhunt said during today's press conference. "Obviously, if something happens, Jake would play. There’s the great unknown out there. I can’t answer the unknown. I’m just saying that right now we’re going forward with Zach (Mettenberger), like we said."

Mettenberger will be making his first NFL start, a prospect that doesn't scare fellow rookie Taylor Lewan.

“When he steps on the field, he’s not really worried about being a pretty boy, white-collar thing,” Lewan, a left tackle, told ESPN's Paul Kuharsky. “He’s a savage. He throws an interception, an incomplete, anything like that, he’s going to get up and say, ‘Screw that, I’m throwing darts the rest of the game.’ That’s kind of what his thing is. That’s pretty damn cool.”

Mettenberger completed 2-of-5 passes for 17 yards and an interception during a brief appearance in a Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
