Redskins' Robert Griffin III could be held out until Week 11 vs. Buccaneers

A timetable for the return of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III appears to be taking shape.

While there is still a chance that Griffin could play next week when the Redskins take on the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Jay Gruden appears confident that he'll be back on the field in Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I would think - I would guarantee Tampa, most likely, unless something happens between now and then,” Gruden said in an appearance on Sirius XM Radio, according to the Washington Post.

With the Redskins' bye week coming between the games against the Vikings and Buccaneers, Gruden said the extra time will help ensure Griffin is ready to return.

“You’ve got a good bye week, you’ve got a couple weeks to make sure it’s ready," he said. "Obviously Robert is a quick healer. He works extremely hard in the training room. So the process could be sped up a little bit depending on how he feels."

Although Griffin's ankle injury, suffered in Week 2, sparked a temporary quarterback controversy, there is little doubt that he'll regain his starting role when he returns.

Griffin certainly has the talent to play at a high level in the NFL, and demonstrated as much in his rookie season. But he'll need to stay healthy moving forward to have a chance at reaching his full potential.
