Titans open for business as trade deadline approaches

The Tennessee Titans named rookie Zach Mettenberger their new starter this week, suggesting the 2-5 team is already building for next season. The Titans' recent trade of former second-round pick Akeem Ayers suggests the same.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, several more Titans players may be shipped out of town before the trade deadline.

If the Titans can get anything for that trio of veterans, they would be wise to pull the trigger. It's a long shot, however, as teams know the Titans are negotiating from a position of weakness. Ayers, a young player who still has some promise, netted the Titans only a swap of their seventh-round pick for the New England Patriots' sixth-rounder.
