NFL Game Summary - Arizona at Oakland
Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Carson Palmer threw for 253 yards with two touchdowns and an interception to lead the Arizona Cardinals to a 24-13 win over the Oakland Raiders.
Andre Ellington led the Cardinals (5-1) in both rushing and receiving, carrying the ball 24 times for 88 yards and catching six passes for 72.
Stepfan Taylor had a rushing touchdown and a receiving score in the win, Arizona's second straight.
It's been a long time coming for the Cardinals, who haven't started 5-1 since 1976.
"We have a group of guys that find ways to win," Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said. "It was an outstanding job by everyone who put a hat on today."
Derek Carr went 16-for-28 for 173 yards for Oakland (0-6), which has lost 12 straight games dating back to last season.
The Raiders, who are now the only winless team in the NFL, haven't tasted victory since Nov. 17 at Houston.
Darren McFadden rushed for 48 yards on 14 carries with the lone touchdown in the setback.
Arizona turned it over on downs on its first possession just past midfield, but cashed in on its second touch of the day. Ellington's 37-yard run was the highlight of the 11-play, 88-yard drive that culminated in Palmer's 2-yard TD toss to Taylor.
Palmer, who was traded to the Cardinals from Oakland after the 2012 season, then hooked up with Michael Floyd for a 33-yard score, as the wide receiver made a nice grab along the far sideline to give the visitors a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.
Oakland would trim the deficit to 14-10 at the half, however. Brice Butler hauled in a 55-yard pass from Carr to set up a 1-yard touchdown run from McFadden.
Palmer was then intercepted by Charles Woodson, which marked the first such turnover by a Cardinals quarterback this season. Woodson now has 58 interceptions in his career, with 20 of them coming for the Silver and Black.
The turnover led to Sebastian Janikowski's 29-yard field goal right before the break.
Janikowski banged home a 53-yarder on the Raider's first possession of the third, his 350th career field goal.
Taylor rushed for a 4-yard touchdown with under three minutes remaining in the third to extend the cushion, then Chandler Catanzaro knocked down a 41-yard field goal late to account for the final margin.
"They put themselves back in a situation to win the football game. I think that our kids are starting to believe they're close, but that's a consolation right now. In other words, it's not good enough," Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano said.
