NFL denies officiating error on last-second field goal block during Patriots-Jets game

The New York Jets-New England Patriots rivalry may become a little more heated.

New England defeated New York 27-25 Thursday after the Patriots blocked a 58-yard field-goal attempt by kicker Nick Folk that would have given the Jets their first victory since Week 1.

The field goal was not without controversy, however.

Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower appeared to be lined up in an illegal position before the kick, but an official moved him out of the way.

A league spokesperson told USA TODAY's Tom Pelissero that moving players is "a standard officiating procedure that occurs regularly."

Fair or not, it can't be easy for Jets fans to stomach after the team lost its sixth consecutive game.
