Colts extend deal for pass rusher Mathis through 2016

Brian Spurlock / USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts announced a contract extension for outside linebacker Robert Mathis on Tuesday.

The 2013 Defensive Player of the Year runner-up is now signed with the Colts through 2016.

Mathis just came off a four-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, but he won't play this season after tearing his Achilles' tendon while working out away from the team in September.

Mathis is due to be paid $6 million this season. NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the additional year added to his contract is worth $6 million, too.
