Developer asks for more time for LA football plan

LOS ANGELES (AP) A developer proposing to build an NFL stadium in downtown Los Angeles is asking the mayor and other city officials for more time to lure a football team.

Anschutz Entertainment Group asked city officials Monday for a six-month extension to land an NFL franchise.

AEG has proposed replacing the city's convention center with a 76,000-seat stadium and building a new $287 million convention center wing.

AEG Chief Executive Dan Beckerman says the firm has resumed talks with the NFL and remains committed to the project.

If the deal expires Oct. 18, the city takes control of developing the convention center site.

The city has already asked architectural firms to submit plans for a modern convention center and suggestions for where a 1,000-room hotel could be built.
