AFC East Notebook: Smith apologizes for cursing; Tannehill hopes to have quieted critics

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

Every Monday and Friday, theScore's NFL editors will bring you a roundup of everything you need to know from around the division with the AFC East Notebook.

Buffalo Bills

Bills offense, special teams struggle. Both defenses played well as the Texans' defensive line pressured Manuel all day and the Bills were able to stifle the Texans' rushing attack. Houston was just a little bit better.

Bills' investment in Watkins, Manuel not paying off. It took three first-round draft picks to acquire EJ Manuel and Sammy Watkins and the early returns are not great. Manuel is the real concern, after he recorded another multiple interception game.

Bills unable to contain J.J Watt. Even with the Bills scheming to limit Watt's effectiveness the reigning Defensive Player of the Year dominated. Bills head coach Doug Marrone said a pre-game key was to not allow Watt to make "that big, disruptive play."

Defense loses Kyle Williams and Nigel Bradham. Both suffered knee injuries in Sunday's game. Bradham was carted off the field while Williams left under his own power.

Miami Dolphins

Dolphins blowout Raiders in London. Ryan Tannehill threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, Lamar Miller rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns and the defense intercepted three passes. All-in-all, a dominant performance by the Dolphins.

Tannehill hopes he quieted critics. The third-year quarterback reflected on his team's character in overcoming "everything that was going on" around the team last week. Mainly, his coaches assertion that Tannehill could be benched in favor of backup Matt Moore.

Dolphins' secondary essential in win over Raiders. After starting out the season without an interception, the Dolphins secondary finally stepped up and was responsible for turnovers on three straight possessions

New York Jets

Jets' secondary carved up in loss. The Jets cut the Lions lead to seven with just under seven minutes remaining but were unable to stop Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense as they drove down the field.

Geno Smith apologizes after cursing at a heckler. Smith's frustrations boiled over after the game and he cursed out a fan on his way to the locker room. He later apologized but that won't quiet the calls for a quarterback switch to Michael Vick.

Sheldon Richardson backed up his quarterback. Richardson's message for anyone who chanted "We want Vick" at the game was to "shut up." Rex Ryan also stood behind his sophomore quarterback.

New England Patriots

Hali will be challenge for struggling Solder. The Patriots' starting left tackle will have his hands full against the high-motor Tamba Hali. Solder has allowed 10 quarterback pressures already this season, ranking fifth-worst among offensive tackles.

Gronkowski probable. It looks like the tight end will play Monday night despite dealing with lingering knee issues. He has played all three of the Patriots' games this season but has yet to break out.

Projecting Patriots inactives. Brandon LaFell and Alfonzo Dennard are among the players projected to miss tonight's game against the Kansas City Chiefs
