NFC South Notebook: Saints run worst fake punt ever?; Falcons' road woes continue

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Every Monday and Friday, theScore's NFL editors will bring you a roundup of everything you need to know from around the division with the NFC South Notebook.

New Orleans Saints

"Nobody's doing worse than the Ryan brothers." Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan gave a harsh critique of himself and his brother, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, following Sunday's 38-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Offensive numbers misleading. Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune says the Saints' offense is becoming less of a threat with each passing week, and warns fans not to be fooled by the team's offensive numbers.

Worst fake punt ever? With under seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game, and facing a fourth-and-nine from their own 41-yard line, the Saints decided to run a fake punt with punter Thomas Morstead. Needless to say, it didn't go the way they planned.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Buccaneers stun Steelers. Mike Glennon connected with Vincent Jackson on a five-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds of Sunday's game to give the Bucs their first win of the season.

Quarterback of the future. Tampa Bay Times columnist Gary Shelton liked what he saw from Glennon on Sunday and makes the case for him as the Bucs' quarterback of the future.

McCown has torn ligament. The Bucs' other quarterback, Josh McCown, has a torn ligament in his thumb and is expected to test the injury Monday. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, surgery remains an option and would sideline him for at least six weeks.

Carolina Panthers

Injuries continue to mount in Panthers' backfield. The Panthers lost yet another running back to injury Sunday, as DeAngelo Williams left the game in the second quarter with a sprained ankle.

Who are the Panthers? According to Tom Sorensen of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers are "the team with the challenging schedule that's off to its best start in six seasons."

Undisciplined D. The Panthers failed to record a sack in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and have given up 75 points in their past two games. David Newton of ESPN.com says undisciplined defense is becoming the new norm for the team.

Atlanta Falcons

Moore goes down. Not only did the Falcons' defense surrender 558 yards to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, they also lost safety William Moore to what is believed to be a significant shoulder injury

Road woes continue. The Falcons have yet to record a win on the road this season, and have been outscored 65-38. As Mark Inabinett of AL.com points out, this is nothing new. Atlanta has just one win in 10 road games dating back to 2013 – a 34-31 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 13 of last season.

Should the Falcons trade for Arthur Brown? Bleacher Report's Scott Carasik thinks so, and makes a pretty convincing case for the Baltimore Ravens linebacker.
