Packers offense explodes in dominant win over Bears

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Rebounding the best way possible from a disappointing 1-2 start to the season, the Green Bay Packers captured a convincing 38-17 win over the division rival Chicago Bears on Sunday. Not only did the Packers' offense put to rest some concerns about their early season performance, but the defense played opportunistic football and came up big when it mattered most.

Here's what you need to know . . .

  • The Bears had no answer for an efficient and explosive Packers passing attack. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the way, completing 22-of-28 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns.
  • The Packers' top two receivers, Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson, accounted for the majority of that offensive production.
  • Cobb hauled in seven passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns, and Nelson tallied 10 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns of his own.
  • Eddie Lacy ran for just 48 yards on 17 carries, still leaving something to be desired in the ground game, but did notch a goal-line touchdown.
  • The Bears moved the ball consistently throughout the game, out-gaining the Packers 496-358 in total yards, but continuously failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
  • Quarterback Jay Cutler completed just 22-of-34 passes for 256 yards, throwing for two touchdowns and what proved to be two key interceptions.
  • Improving on what was the league's worst rushing attack heading into the game, the Bears ran for a total of 235 yards, led by a 122-yard effort from Matt Forte and 72 yards from Ka'Deem Carey.
