Texans defense, special teams shine in win over Bills

Kevin Jairaj / USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans defense was too much for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, while the Texans offense was efficient enough to pull out a 23-17 victory.

Here's what you need to know:

Box Score | Fantasy Pulse

  • The Texans improved to 3-1 for the third time in franchise history; the Bills fell to 2-2.
  • Houston defensive end J.J. Watt pulled off an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Watt registered three hits on Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel in the first quarter alone and had a career-high six in the first half and finished with nine in the game.
  • Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson's streak of 82 consecutive games without losing a fumble came to an end in the second quarter. Johnson last fumbled on Oct. 12, 2008 against the Miami Dolphins.
  • Former Clemson wide receivers Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins went toe-to-toe for the first time as pros and did not disappoint. Watkins caught a five-yard touchdown in the second quarter and Hopkins answered with a 35-yard score about five minutes later.
  • As expected, the vaunted Bills run defense stalled the Texans backfield. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was the team's leading rusher with 14 yards on six carries. Alfred Blue carried the ball nine times for nine yards and Arian Foster got eight carries and ran for six yards.
  • Texans kicker Randy Bullock hit three field goals, including two from beyond 50 yards.
