Week 3: Seahawks outlast Broncos; Eagles top Redskins; Bridgewater and Bortles debut

Seahawks foil Broncos again

The Denver Broncos sure made them sweat, but the Seattle Seahawks escaped with a 26-20 victory.

Seattle survived a furious rally by Peyton Manning and the Broncos to take the Super Bowl rematch in overtime. Denver trailed 17-3 at one point in the fourth quarter and 20-12 with less than a minute to go, but Manning threw a late touchdown pass to Jacob Tamme, and a subsequent two-point conversion to Demaryius Thomas to force overtime.

Manning, however, wouldn't see the ball again. Russell Wilson marched the Seahawks down the field on the first possession of overtime, culminating in a six-yard Marshawn Lynch rushing touchdown to give Seattle the win.

Both teams now sit at 2-1. Sure, it's still early, but wouldn't it be fun to watch these teams duke it out again in February?

Eagles spoil DeSean Jackson's return

DeSean Jackson made his much anticipated return to Philadelphia on Sunday and he celebrated it with an 81-yard touchdown, but the Eagles got the last laugh.

They defeated Washington 37-34 in a testy affair. Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was the victim of a big hit by defensive lineman Chris Baker after throwing an interception that was later overturned.

A brouhaha ensued that saw both Baker and Eagles offensive tackle Jason Peters ejected for their actions.

The second-half skirmish seemed to spark Philly, who put together 10-straight points and ultimately held on for the win to remain undefeated.

Bridgewater and Bortles make their debuts

After much anticipation, rookies Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles finally saw action on Sunday, but for different reasons.

Bridgewater replaced an injured Matt Cassel, who left after breaking several bones in his foot.

The rookie pivot finished 12-of-20 for 150 yards without a touchdown in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. However, he'll need to improve on that as head coach Mike Zimmer named him the starter going forward.

Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, Gus Bradley turned to Blake Bortles for the first time this season with his team trailing 30-0 in the third quarter.

Bortles found Allen Robinson for 21 yards to mark his first NFL completion and finished 14-of-24 for two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

Many were calling for Bortles to start in Week 1, but Bradley was hesitant to throw the rookie to the wolves that quickly. However, with the Jags struggling mightily, he has changed his tune. Following the game, Bradley named him the starter for next week's matchup against the San Diego Chargers.

Bengals keep rolling

The Cincinnati Bengals have quietly moved to 3-0 with a convincing win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Cincy hasn't gotten a ton of press so far as being one of the league's elite teams, but that could change shortly.

There are simply not a lot of holes on this roster, and although Andy Dalton and A.J. Green typically garner all the headlines, it's their defense that's leading the charge so far this season. The Bengals D has given up just 33 points in three games while tallying seven sacks.

Over in the NFC, the Arizona Cardinals also moved to 3-0 on the back of a second-straight win led by backup quarterback Drew Stanton.

Ravens' Pitta carted off

Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta has left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns and it doesn't look good.

The injury occurred on a non-contact play, and the Ravens fear his season is over with a hip fracture.

Pitta missed the majority of 2013 with a hip injury, and acts as a security blanket for quarterback Joe Flacco, especially on third downs.

Bills and Texans no longer undefeated

The Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans sitting at 2-0 were two of the biggest surprises early in the season, but they are undefeated no more.

The Bills were easily handled by a good Chargers quad, and the Texans turned the ball over three times in a loss to the New York Giants.

At 2-1, they're both still in decent shape going forward, but after Sunday's performances, it's clear there is still plenty of work to be done.
