Vikings release wide receiver Jerome Simpson

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Jerome Simpson's tenure in Minnesota has come to an end.

The Vikings released the 28-year-old receiver after Simpson was cited on misdemeanor charges of driving on a limited driver's license, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and having an open bottle in a motor vehicle.

Simpson was already in the middle of a three-game suspension, following an arrest on suspicion of drunken driving in November 2013.

Simpson may have violated his probation, according to Pro Football Talk

"We are gathering information on the incident and we will be acting on Mr. Simpson accordingly,” Brian Kopperud, Jerome Simpson's probation supervisor said per Pro Football Talk.

“Technically, he should have made us aware this happened.”

The Vikings play the New Orleans Saints in Week 3.
