AFC East Notebook: Bills take division lead, Patriots bounce back

Every Monday and Friday, theScore's NFL editors will bring you a roundup of everything you need to know from around the division with the AFC East Notebook.

Buffalo Bills

Bills take early division lead. With a convincing 29-10 win over the Dolphins, the Bills moved to 2-0 on the season and into sole possession of first place in what is certain to be a highly competitive AFC East division.

Watkins scores first NFL touchdown. The most productive Bills player in Week 2, rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins tallied 117 yards on eight receptions, including his first NFL touchdown to put the game away late in the third quarter.

EJ Manuel easing concerns. After preseason struggles had many concerned about the Bills' offense, and the quarterback position in particular, Manuel may not be putting up big stats, but he is taking care of the ball and running an efficient unit through two weeks of play.

Spiller shines. After a tough 2013 season, the Bills needed C.J. Spiller to get back to being one of the league's most dangerous playmakers. He stepped up Sunday, with a 102-yard kickoff return touchdown in the third quarter that had his teammates raving.

New England Patriots

Patriots bounce back in dominant fashion. After a disappointing loss to the Dolphins in Week 1, the Patriots looked like the team most expected them to be in a 30-7 blowout win on the road over the Minnesota Vikings.

Chandler Jones comes up big. After a move to outside linebacker, Jones was a standout player for the Patriots in Week 2, tallying 8 tackles and two sacks, as well as a blocked field goal he returned for a 58-yard touchdown.

Revis Island is back. Cornerback Darrelle Revis notched his first interception in a Patriots uniform, shutting down Vikings receiver Greg Jennings throughout the game. Afterwards, Jennings was overheard asking Revis "How did you do that?"

Brady still not satisfied. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was happy with his team's Week 2 win, but he stressed there is still work to be done on the offensive side of the ball.

New York Jets

Jets blow 18-point lead in loss to Packers. Despite a fast start, the Jets were unable to keep up with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offense, giving up a three-score lead after putting up just three second-half points

Richardson takes blame for timeout blunder. A timeout called from the Jets' sideline erased what would have been a game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter, and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson is taking responsibility for making the call.

Decker dealing with hamstring injury. The Jets' receiving corps may have taken a hit Sunday as receiver Eric Decker left the game with a hamstring injury and is scheduled to undergo further tests Monday.

Wilkerson ejected. The Jets' incredibly strong defensive line got weaker as the game went on, as defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was ejected in the fourth quarter for throwing punches in a skirmish that followed the Packers' go-ahead score.

Miami Dolphins

Dolphins disappoint in blowout loss. The Dolphins were unable to live up to the heightened expectations that followed a Week 1 victory over the Patriots, trailing from start to finish in a 29-10 loss to the Bills.

Moreno has dislocated elbow. Running back Knowshon Moreno is expected to miss 4-8 weeks after suffering a dislocated elbow in the first quarter of Sunday's game.

Offense misses opportunity. Getting ball with 2:21 to go in the first half, down 9-0, the Dolphins had an opportunity to put together a key drive with their two-minute offense. Instead they elected run the ball six-straight times, letting the clock run out and going into halftime rather quietly.

Dolphins sign Daniel Thomas. With Knowshon Moreno set to miss some time, the Dolphins have brought back a familiar face at running back in Daniel Thomas. Thomas was a 2011 second-round pick of the team, but was released at final roster cut downs prior to this season.
