Report: Bills' Manuel, Texans' Fitzpatrick among quarterbacks on the 'hot seat'

The Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans won't hesitate to sit their starting quarterbacks in favor of their backups, according ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Manuel struggled in his five preseason appearances, completing 50-of-81 passes for 516 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while being sacked seven times.

The Bills signed eight-year NFL veteran Orton to a one-year deal at the end of August, and with 70 career starts, the 31-year-old Purdue product would likely be comfortable with taking over as the team's primary pivot.

Fitzpatrick, a nine-year veteran, didn't exactly light the world on fire during his three preseason appearances, completing 25-of-43 passes for 232 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

The Texans acquired Mallett from the New England Patriots on Aug. 31 in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick, and officially named him Fitzpatrick's backup on Sept.3.
