Report: Bills coach Marrone clashed with team officials, dared them to 'go ahead and fire me'

The Buffalo Bills are a team in flux both on and off the field, and rising tensions in the organization recently produced a shouting match between the team's head coach and several team officials.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that Bills head coach Doug Marrone recently engaged in a "loud verbal altercation" with his superiors on the practice field. 

It's unclear what led to the blowup, but La Canfora suggests tensions between Marrone and director of player personnel Jim Monos over how some players are being used by the coaching staff were a key factor. 

General manager Doug Whaley and team president Russ Brandon reportedly tried to intervene and diffuse the situation, but instead escalated things. La Canfora reports Marrone challenged his superiors to "go ahead and fire me" before finally calming down. 

The Bills face an uncertain future as the regular season opener approaches. The team remains up for sale after the passing of founder Ralph Wilson, and the possibility of the new owner wanting to bring in "his people" to fill the roles of general manager and head coach is surely weighing on the team.

On the field, second-year quarterback EJ Manuel, the team's first-round pick in 2013, looks like anything but a franchise passer. Unless he becomes one, the team will be hard-pressed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
