Slimmed-down Nick Fairley returns to Lions' starting lineup

The Detroit Lions released their unofficial depth chart for Week 1 of the regular season Monday, and there was one notable change at defensive tackle.

Nick Fairley returned to the first team after being relegated to a backup role behind C.J. Mosley, and is expected to start in the Lions' regular-season opener against the New York Giants.

Fairley is also back down to his ideal playing weight of 305 pounds, which he credits to better eating habits.

"I feel a whole lot better just by not putting that bad stuff in my body," Fairley said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "You feel the energy, you feel it out there at practice."

To ensure he isn't putting as much "bad stuff" in his body, Fairley has hired a personal chef to prepare him meals throughout the week. He brings breakfast and lunch with him to practice every day, and has pre-made dinners stored in his refrigerator at home.

"[The demotion] just opened my eyes up that they need me to go, like I said before, play more consistent," Fairley said. "That's what they want out of me."
