Knowshon Moreno appears to be Dolphins' lead running back

The Miami Dolphins' running back position has made for one of the most interesting roster competitions throughout the team's training camp and preseason.

Although Lamar Miller was the starter in the team's preseason games, and may turn out to be the player announced in the starting lineup when the regular season kicks off, veteran free-agent addition Knowshon Moreno appears to be the lead back in that tandem, per the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

"I think, I think, I think we're expecting to have more production," Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor said when asked about Lamar Miller.

"I have no doubts about how explosive and productive he can be in space. There might be some schemes that are a little bit different for him and the more reps he gets at them the more decisive he is from the backfield. I see that happen during the preseason, I'm excited about where we're headed."

With Lazor's concerns over Miller's preseason production and effectiveness in certain schemes, Salguero believes Moreno is better-suited for the lead role, with Miller becoming becoming a change-of-pace back seeing snaps in the packages where he can be most effective.

Coming off a 1,038-yard, 10-touchdown season with the Broncos, while also adding 60 catches for 548 yards and three touchdowns in the passing game, Moreno has proven to be more than capable of carrying the load as an every-down back.

Both players will likely see their fair share of snaps either way, but Moreno earning the bulk of the load wouldn't be a surprise given his experience, and he'd likely become one of the more intriguing fantasy players at running back for a second straight season as a result.
