Cowboys' Garrett: DeVonte Holloman's career 'likely over' after neck injury

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett updated the condition of linebacker DeVonte Holloman on Thursday, and the news is not good.

Garrett said doctors have told Holloman that his NFL career "is likely over" after the 23-year-old suffered a neck injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Holloman was injured midway through the fourth quarter when one of his teammates made contact with him underneath his arm while going for a tackle.

He missed seven games last season after suffering a spinal contusion in practice.

Holloman was one of the candidates to replace starter Sean Lee after Lee tore his ACL during OTAs.

The Cowboys traded for Rolando McClain in July, and the former Oakland Raiders linebacker may now be counted on to fill the growing void the Cowboys have at the position.

Holloman was the Cowboys' sixth-round pick in 2013. He registered two sacks and 14 total tackles in nine games last season.
