Adrian Peterson won't play Saturday vs. Cardinals

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

In the least surprising news of the day, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer announced that Adrian Peterson won't be suiting up on Saturday when they take on the Arizona Cardinals.

The Vikings have hinted that Peterson may not see the field at all during the preseason, as it would serve no purpose other than to increase the chances the star running back could sustain an injury.

Given the uncertainty around the Vikings quarterback situation at the moment, making sure Peterson is healthy entering the season is paramount.

As Peterson approaches 30, keeping as much wear and tear off his body as possible will be critical to prolonging his career.
