Scrap between Bennett and Fuller leads to early end of Bears' practice

Another day, another training camp scrap. A day after things got heated during training camp for the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears experienced their own round of fisticuffs that put an early end to Monday's practice.

Tight end Martellus Bennett didn't take kindly to a hit around the neck from cornerback Kyle Fuller near the goal line. After the shot, Bennett got up and slammed Fuller to the ground before grabbing the rookie's facemask and berating him with a profanity-filled retort.

Bennett spoke to reporters after head coach Marc Trestman called a stop to practice, but didn't sound like he was apologetic:

I came to camp to prepare to win a championship. Every single play I'm scratching and fighting for everything. Same way I play every single day. I play hard. I go hard every single day. I'm probably one of the most violent people on the field. That's just my style of play. That's how I'm going to play and continue to play the way I play and that's what I'm here for.

Everybody here is taking about friendships. Really we're all preparing for a championship. If we make friends along the way, that's cool. But at the end of the day, I'm just trying to help the Bears win a championship.

Teammates stepped in to separate the two and Bennett even got into an argument with wide receiver Brandon Marshall before he could be calmed down. Afterwards, Bennett didn't seem to have a reason for why the Fuller hit upset him so much.

"I don't even know," Bennett said. "It really don't matter now. [Shoot], it's a whole other day now. I'm getting ready to go to meetings and eat lunch. I'm over it now. What's on the field is on the field."

Trestman didn't say whether there would be any discipline resulting from the incident, though Bennett isn't worried if the Bears want to take a chunk out of his checkbook.

"I can afford it," Bennett said. "Really, I don't see what he could fine me for on that."
