Raiders owner admits to visiting San Antonio, declines to comment on potential move

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

With rumors swirling around Oakland in regards to the Raiders exploring the possibility of moving the team to San Antonio, owner Mark Davis admitted that he had in fact visited the Texas city but was unwilling to comment on the situation any further.

"I was in San Antonio to honor Cliff Branch on his induction into the PVILCA (Prairie View Interscholastic Coaches Association)," Davis said (via the Raiders' Twitter page). "Former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros is a friend, and Harry suggested I take the opportunity to meet with some of the city officials while we were in town. I have nothing further to discuss on the topic."

Although Davis is staying mum on the subject, San Antonio city manager Sheryl Sculley issued the following memo to city council (via the San Antonio Express-News):

I was asked to meet two weeks ago with the owner of the Oakland Raiders, Mark Davis, and members of his staff. Mr. Davis has expressed interest in a possible relocation of his NFL team to San Antonio and we are engaged in preliminary due diligence. The agenda for this visit included a tour of the Alamodome and meetings with local business leaders.

The possibility of a third team moving to Texas will no doubt perk up the ears of anyone associated with the Houston Texans or Dallas Cowboys, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasting little time before (kind of) weighing in on the subject.

"I thought it was somebody joking with me when they came out here about (the Raiders) going to San Antonio. So I don't have any comment, other than how valued I feel, and the Cowboys feel about our fans in San Antonio," Jones told reporters Tuesday (via NFL.com).

"I am very pleased that we have the fan base that we have down there and the percentage of fans we have (in San Antonio)," Jones said. "I think it is 97, 98, 99 percent Cowboys fans in the area. But it doesn't surprise me at all. I know that there were those kind of rumors regarding the Saints."
