Panthers' Hardy: 'I hate that I have distracted my team'

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy spoke with reporters Sunday for the first time since being convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, and said he regrets becoming a distraction to the team.

Hardy's comments were brief, as he declined to discuss the legal situation and would not say whether he apologized to his teammates.

"I hate that I have distracted my team, but other than that I can't really answer any questions," Hardy said, via Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer.

Hardy was found guilty earlier this month on two misdemeanor charges stemming from a May altercation at his condo. He and his defense team appealed the decision and are expected to receive a jury trial.
