Eagles officially announce 4-game suspension for tackle Lane Johnson

As presumed for the past month, when news of Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson's alleged violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs leaked, the second-year player will indeed miss the first quarter of the season.

"We’re very disappointed to learn of his suspension," the team said in a statement. "He understood what he did wrong and took full responsibility. The key for him, however, is to learn from that mistake and move forward with his preparation for the 2014 season."

Johnson blamed the violation on a prescribed medication he took to deal with a medical issue in the spring. The second-year pro apologized to his coaches, teammates and the fans, and promised to be ready to contribute come Week 5.
