The Carolina Panthers selected a receiver with tremendous potential in Florida State product Kelvin Benjamin.

At 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Benjamin is a mismatch nightmare for anyone trying to guard him. Last season at Florida State he notched over 1,000 yards receiving on just 54 catches, showing his big-play capability. He also had 15 touchdowns, including the winning score against Auburn in the national title game.

Due to his impressive frame, Benjamin has no issues going over the middle and is difficult to bring down once the ball is in his hands. He can run all routes and can easily dispose of press coverage. The Panthers now have a legitimate red zone threat they can throw the fade route to in one-on-one situations, which will be a nice security blanket for Cam Newton.

Carolina's receiver corps was decimated in the offseason as Steve Smith, Ted Ginn, Brandon LaFell and Domenik Hixon were all shown the door by the Panthers. Jericho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood were added as free agents, but hardly intimidate opponents.

Benjamin will be given an opportunity to start right away and become a true No. 1 receiver. If he can develop chemistry quickly with Newton, Carolina could end up with one of the biggest steals in the draft.

Benjamin should have no trouble earning a starting spot in Week 1 and should be a focal point of the Panthers' offense for years to come.
