Packers' Mike Daniels: 'Julius Peppers is by every means of the word a freak of nature'

Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

To say Mike Daniels is excited about the Green Bay Packers' addition of defensive end Julius Peppers might be an understatement.

"You're going to hear me talking about Julius Peppers all off-season," the third-year defensive lineman said, via Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

At 34 years old, there's no disputing that Peppers is past his prime. He's done a good job at hiding it, though, appearing in all 96 games over the past six seasons, including 94 starts.

The eight-time Pro Bowler led the Chicago Bears with 7½ sacks last season, and while that number was down from the 11½ he posted in 2012, Daniels believes he still has some juice left in the tank.

"Charles Woodson played pretty well at 34," Daniels said. "Julius Peppers is by every means of the word a 'freak of nature.' I don't think age is going to affect him too much. And he's got some pretty good players lined up with him. Our front seven is very good. When you add the element of Julius Peppers to that. The sky's the limit in my opinion."

Head coach Mike McCarthy said Peppers will play an "elephant" position on the Packers' defense, but hasn't indicated where he'll line up.

Daniels thinks they should "just throw him out there."

"I think he's going to bring a whole other element to our locker room," Daniels said. "He's proven. He's a guy who does things right, obviously, with all the success he’s had. I think he’s going to be great for a lot of the younger guys — Nick (Perry), Josh (Boyd), Datone (Jones), myself, Jerel (Worthy). He's really someone for us to learn from. You look at Mike Neal and Clay, he's got some years on them, too. I think he's got a lot to bring to the team in terms of that."

"He's a heck of a presence. He gets the job done on the field and to be able to line up next to Julius is going to be a sight."
